S.T.E.A.M.

Our curriculum is based on the idea of educating students in five specific disciplines — science, technology, engineering, mathematics  &  robotics — STEAM in an interdisciplinary and applied approach. Rather than teach the five disciplines as separate and discrete subjects, STEAM & robotics integrate them into a cohesive learning paradigm based on real-world applications. What separates STEAM from the traditional science and math education is the blended learning environment and showing students how the scientific method can be applied to everyday life in everything. It teaches students computational thinking and focuses on the real world applications of problem-solving.

Hands on Activities

European EISB students carry out several research projects throughout the year. In order to provide them with all the tools necessary to understand the actual process involved, they have the school’s scientific laboratories at their disposal. These research projects are what we call “hands on activities”: experience-based activities that help the students to understand the concepts by witnessing the process.

At European International School of Barcelona we have 3 laboratories: one for Primary students and 2 for Secondary students (physics and geology lab and chemistry and biology lab). All students, even in Infant School, carry out experience-based activities on a regular basis. The subject of Technology in Secondary School includes robotics and computer programming in its syllabus.

Science Week and Science and Technology Fair

In November we take part in the international celebration of Science Week, whose main goal is to reflect on scientific topics and carry out cross-curricular projects that raise awareness that science is everywhere. The whole educational community, from Infant School to Baccalaureate, takes part in these activities.

From P3 to Baccalaureate, all the students are proud to exhibit their projects in the Science and Technology Fair. One of the main objectives of the fair is to awaken in students an interest in pursuing a career in the scientific or technological field, and for students to learn to solve easy questions following the steps of the scientific method.

Weather Station

We have at our students’ disposal a weather station that allows them to gather data of meteorological variables to analyze them and draw their our conclusions. This way, we encourage such important values as teamwork, responsibility and independence.

School garden

The School garden is one of our key educational tools, for it allows us to work concepts like biodiversity, ecosystems and environmental education in a fun, dynamic and enjoyable way.
