A wide variety of possibilities

At European International School of Barcelona we offer a wide range of activities to provide students with the opportunity to enjoy their favourite activity without having to leave the school. Football, dance, basketball, music, swimming, drama, rhythmic gymnastics, synchronized swimming, triathlon, arts or judo…Renowned Sports and Arts Schools that take part in national and international competitions.

These activities are very important. They are more than just after-school activities; they provide an authentic sport and artistic experience. Our after-school activities are open to students from other schools, which provides us with large groups to compete in any discipline.

At European International School of Barcelona we regularly organize conferences, exhibitions and roundtables for both students and parents.

Music School

Individual clases: musical language and instruments such as: guitar, piano, flute, cello, violin, viola and many more…All classes take place on the school premises and are taught by expert teachers.

Social work and workshops

Throughout the year we celebrate Saint Cecilia, Saint George, Halloween…and we are also lucky enough to count on other internal musical and choir performances.

Chess club

Creativity, decision-making skills and critical thinking, mathematical skills, memory, concentration, ethics, justice… Nowadays no one doubts the great educational benefits of playing chess for the comprehensive development of a person.

Our goal is to promote the interest in this sport, and to make it as easy as possible for students to participate and learn. This is why we have classes available to our students during their breaks to play chess and we also have the new chess after-school activity.

Art / Arts programmes

To educate in creativity will prepare our students for future changes and will help them become original, flexible individuals with initiative, self-confidence, and able to face any challenges that may come their way either in their school or everyday life.

The arts play a vital role in the education of our students, for it is the ignition that sparks the natural creativity we all have within us and it stimulates our individual qualities, social and moral values and our self-confidence.

European International School of Barcelona and the Arts Department’s main goal is, by means of the arts syllabus and the different after-school activities, to provide students with the opportunity to discover and develop creative projects that will contribute gradually to building their own identity, establishing emotional relationships, developing their skills and appreciating their social, cultural and natural environment.

The backbone elements of this department are: Music School, Classical Ballet School, Funky and Hip Hop, Arts and Drama.

Music in all its forms

We use music to communicate ideas, feelings and emotions; the impact of music in social communication; musical performances as a means of communication among different cultures…All of this is what our students learn in the performances that take place throughout the year, in different school events and festivals. Rock Pop is also part of our syllabus. Thus, all our students with musical interests have the opportunity to develop their abilities and start a Rock Pop music band.

Instrument technique and performances

Our students can choose the instrument they like the most: piano, violin, cello, flute, classical guitar, electric guitar, drums, etc. As a Trinity College Registered Examination Centre, we offer official examinations that will provide our students with an international accreditation and recognition.

Students’ musical performances are an enriching experience for both the audience and the students performing.

Choir

In the after-school Choir classes, for Primary 5 & 6, ESO and Baccalaureate students, we work on voice techniques and different musical styles.

Through this workshop we are able to work and study in depth a repertoire of different songs and styles, aimed at satisfying the interests, motivations and abilities of our students, while always following the leading voice of the teacher. Our students will learn songs from different countries, using the different languages taught at school, and making the most of the opportunity to sing in the different international exchanges that take place throughout the year; as well as in external performances like in El Palau de la Música Catalana.

Ballet

The study of Ballet brings students closer to an art where body and soul merge in search of perfection.

Ballet has its own language. With Ballet we communicate emotions, ideas and feelings that cannot be translated into words.

Through dancing we get closer to other artistic expressions to which Ballet is closely related, such as: music, theatre, poetry, painting, sculpture, etc.

Ballet allows us to appreciate the emotions we feel through rhythm, movement and sound.

Classical Ballet: Royal Academy of Dance

European International School of Barcelona follows the Royal Academy of Dance curriculum, in accordance with our international educational programme.

We offer the students the opportunity to obtain official diplomas in the different levels of examinations, a way to stimulate and reward their hard work.

The Royal Academy of Dance syllabus is structured progressively, from Pre-Primary (6 years of age), Primary to Grade VIII. Every year the students have the opportunity to take the RAD exams which take place in the school.

Arts and Crafts

Through the education of art, students will learn how to use the most important elements of visual and plastic languages. Paint is used as a tool to foster artistic sensitivity, communication and creativity. We believe interdisciplinary projects are very important.

The work carried out by our arts students is usually used by their schoolmates in theatre plays, festivals and other events that take place in the school (Sant Jordi, Santa Cecilia, etc).

Drama:
Theatre and musical Theatre

Theatre and dramatic play contribute to the intellectual development of children, improving abilities such as imagination, observation or creativity and oral and body expression. Symbolic play is a necessary part of a child’s language development. When children engage in dramatic play they deepen their understanding of the world and develop skills that will serve them throughout their lives.

Musical Theatre is taught in English and is aimed at students from Primary 3 to 6 and ESO 1 and 2. Also, Musical Theatre is growing in prominence in our country and its educational relevance lies in the fact that it includes several disciplines: performing, singing, body expression, music, dancing etc.

An adventure: scripts, lights, costumes, atrezzo, mysteries, laughter, tears, fears, last minute jitters, friendship, love…this is an adventure for those young, brave, restless hearts who wish to find something beyond the ideal standards, something that will transport them and satisfy their curiosity.

Triathlon races vary in distances depending on the ages of the participants, and the format depends on the season: from the mountain duathlon (running and mountain biking), or the road duathlon, followed by the aquathlon running and swimming) and the triathlon. Our triathlon programme is adapted to the age and level of our students.

Judo School

The UNESCO declared judo the best introductory sport for children and young people. The Judo School is divided into three groups: Introduction to Judo: this group is for students from 6 to 9 years of age, where they acquire basic motor skills by learning to use their feet on the floor. Advanced group: from 10 to 13 years of age, our students will develop some throwing techniques with hands, waist, legs and feet, as well as floor control techniques. Judo Mastery Course: 14 years and above, our students will master all the throwing techniques, floor control techniques, joint locks and chokeholds.

Synchronized Swimming

The synchronized swimming programme is for students from the age of 7 who fulfill the necessary requirements accordingly set by the Technical Director. Our students will have a great time using the elements of ballet to create beautiful choreographies in the water where they will dance to the rhythm of the music.

Nursery swimming

Motor development in water for children aged 1 and 2 years is essential for balanced growth.

In our school, we know that among the benefits that this activity allows the baby, we must highlight the important psychomotor development; acquiring greater motor coordination, proprioceptive localisation and kinesthetic integration.  Furthermore, it encourages movements and motor experiences that lead to an increase of the motor repertoire, while helping to strengthen the cardiothoracic system.  Nonetheless, it is important to emphasise the regulation of muscle tone which is very important for the static, the balance and the movement which finally results in an improvement in emotional relationships.

Swimming for babies is one of the best methods of early stimulation because, in a play and pleasure environment, it brings important benefits to the baby due to the physical components (water, movement, heat) this activity provides.
