3rd Crystallization Contest -UB
The Catalonia final of the 3rd Crystallization at school contest took place last Friday at the Pati de Lletres of UB’s Historic Building. Three students from Europa International School participated in the contest: Cristina Abellán, Clàudia Peiró and Meritxell Serra, accompanied by Ms. Elena Muray, Head of the Sciences Department at Europa International School.
Around 1,250 students from 52 high schools in Catalonia participated in the contest. It is a science dissemination project centred on crystallography, addressed to upper secondary teachers and students, and organised by the University of Barcelona (UB), the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (UAB), and the Universitat Rovira i Virgili (URV). 46 projects were presented and 6 qualified for the State Final that will take place in Madrid.
Cristina, Clàudia and Meritxell presented their project to the jury. Our students told the members of the jury what they had learnt, the problems they have had to face, how they had overcome the problems and which they haven’t been able to solve, and the conclusions they drew in order to improve results for future crystallizations. We want to congratulate our students on their courage and enthusiasm. They did a great job representing our school in such an important competition.
We have a long road ahead of us, but participating in this type of events always gives us the energy to continue working to bring science closer to students. The ultimate goal is for our students to find in science a place where they can develop their critical thinking skills and their curiosity to learn.
